Tonight we had a goodbye party/mini birthday celebration for Sara, our Bible study leader. Her internship with CRU ends in May, and she'll be taking a job here in South Carolina. I started feeling kinda nostalgic thinking about how that was the last time we'd be together like that. Sara's leaving, Whitney's going off to MUSC, Felicia's studying abroad in Costa Rica, and I'm going to Japan... By the time I get back, I'll have a new Bible study leader that I'll have to get to know...I hope it doesn't feel like I'm intruding on something when I do get back. I am going to miss Sara...she's a great teacher and a great friend. She each told us something she saw that we could leave as our legacy. Mine was taking all the unique talents God has given me and running with it, with no hesitation and no timidity. Heh...I'll have to seriously work on that. I guess it's the same for everyone...no one can present the gospel or live out God's love quite like me, just like I can't do it exactly the same as someone else. I think that's what makes it so powerful and so accessible to so many different kinds of people. We were all trying not to cry, and Sara said that the two years she had spent with us were the two best years of her life, hands down. Felicia made this Powerpoint show with this sentimental song and pictures of all of us and Sara...it was so sweet.
Of course, it wasn't all warm fuzzies...see, last week the girls pulled a prank on another one of the CRU interns, Dave. Apparently they covered his truck in Saran Wrap and chocolate... Well, anyway, we were walking out of CEC, where we had decided to meet, all happy and chatty and fuzzy...and then we realize there's writing on the windows and windshield. On closer inspection, scrawled in chocolate was, "Don't hate me cause I'm hot". And on the back, with an arrow pointing from the front of the car, "Or cause you want to date me." And on the window: "You're sleepin' on the job." The other girls walked out, and we started laughing, although it was kinda bewildered laughter.
And then the water balloons started coming. From both directions. We started screaming and running back into the church. When we thought it was over, we ventured back out, but then we heard voices. When Kristie said something about it, it got quiet again. The others ignored it, but I stood there a little while longer. Then I saw this guy sneak out from behind the door, and it was like slow motion. He saw me, grinned, aimed multiple water balloons... My mouth falls open, and I scream, "Take cover!!!" We had to run back in the church all over again. Surprisingly, I didn't get wet at all, though several balloons missed me by inches.
Yeah, Dave got his revenge. :D And the sad thing is that one of my friends left early because she wasn't feeling well...and got ambushed by Dave and company, Saran wrapped, and smeared on the face with chocolate. We heard about this later when she left a message on Sara's phone, relating the events in a heartbreakingly deadpan tone. We totally ragged on Dave for that when he came to visit later on. Then we all watched the video Felicia made of when they pranked Dave's car. It was so crazy...they all had on black and smeared black under their eyes. They were mugging for the camera, and Felicia had the Mission: Impossible theme playing... But the best part was at the end, when they filmed Sara driving back. It looked just like this bad movie. She was looking out at the street, and she said, "It's 12:56. We just pranked David's car." Then there's a closeup of her finger pointing to the clock on the dashboard, and sweet, softspoken Sara says in this country gangster voice, "You were sleepin' on the job, Dave! You were sleepin' on the job!!" I haven't laughed as hard as I did tonight in a long time. It was a proper sendoff, I think. I think I'll always remember tonight, and I'll remember it fondly.
