Princess for a Day

My nails are still dark pink and sparkly. My tiara is cast off, sitting on top of my printer. But this was the best birthday I've ever had. Seriously.

I got up at 8 this morning to go to class- and promptly did a happy dance along with the happy song, which goes along the lines of "It's my buuurthday! It's my buuuurthday!" The happy dance continued throughout the day, I'm happy to report.

I only had Japanese today, which I like, so it was cool. All we did was origami today anyway. I made a samurai hat. :)

I walked home with Arielle, my old suitemate from last year. We don't see much of each other anymore, so it was so cool getting to talk to her. We celebrated the fact that we were both done with class.

My mommy came and took me to Miyo's. Now normally you might not think that's such a great present, but I love my mommy a lot. She's like one of my best friends, and we're a lot alike. Plus everyone says I look just like her. Anyway, Jones was working then, and we talked for a bit. Mom loved the food, but she said my orange chicken was even better. (Well, of course. :) )

After lunch, we came home and Mom put a little pink candle on this cute little tiny German chocolate cake and sang me Happy Birthday. She sang it soft cause she didn't want to disturb my roommate, but it reminded me of how she used to sing me to sleep when I was a little girl in that hushed, loving voice, and it made me smile a little wider. I made a wish and blew out the candle on the first try. Which is a big deal cause candles hate me. I can't even blow out one candle sometimes....don't know why that is.

Then I went walking down Greene Street, and I saw Lou and Monica driving by. Lou screamed "Happy birthday!!!" from me from the other side of the street and said I must be in mourning because I was wiping my eyes.

It was cold. I'm a punk whose eyes start watering every time there's a cold wind. :D

As for birthday presents:

23 Happy Birthday posts on my facebook wall

birthday wishes from who knows how many people in person (I lost count)

1 card and 10 bucks from the 'rents (to go toward a new album from iTunes, of course :D)

A phone call from my sister

the lyrics to this crazy birthday song from Callis (I cracked up cause I could so picture him singing it in some loud, crazy voice)

Lunch from my mommy

an email from my dad saying I'm catching up with him (he's been 39 for almost 13 years now)

my very own birthday topic on the message board I frequent (those are my homies :D)

a whole cabin full of people singing "Happy Birthday" to me as loud as they could

Which brings us to the Shack Christmas Ball. Oh. My. Gosh. It was so awesome! I had so much fun last night. The spread was beautiful. Everyone outdid themselves. We tried to figure out why the heck the punch looked like it did (there were comparisons to banana pudding and beer...but it was good, really good. Don't hurt me, whoever made the punch) and screamed like crazy people whenever someone came in late. We had a Christmas quiz, during which I whined, " I just got out of class!!!!" Some people got everything right. You don't want to know how many I got right. Then we had a little tribute to Christine, during which everyone awwed. It was such an aw moment. It's true, though. Christine has touched so many lives, including mine. That's my girl forever, even though she's not on staff anymore.

We sang Christmas carols, and in between, the Christmas story was read. It was a very special time. I felt so homey. And then Garrett announced that Julia was expecting again. The response was deafening. I really hope that the pregnancy goes on without a hitch. Remember to keep the Currys in your prayers, people. *waggles finger*

Then the dancing commenced. It was so crazy...everyone was just jumping around, laughing and having a good time. Garrett would just jump in the middle and do crazy stuff out of the blue, and we'd cheer him on. I got my own dance with Santa in the middle of the floor at one point, and Lou told everyone it was my birthday. My favorite songs were the ones we all sang together while we were dancing in loud, crazy voices. There was "Love Shack" (ha ha), "I Believe in a Thing Called Love", and "The Sign". Yes, we were singing to Ace of Base.

Then we cleaned up, and I was standing near the front, trying to stay out of the way of people moving tables and stuff. Then everyone suddenly breaks out into song, singing "Happy Birthday" to me as loud as they could. I couldn't do anything but put my hand over my mouth. I think that was the best birthday present I got all day. Being able to celebrate my birthday with good friends...there's nothing better. Plus, I can truly say I celebrated my birthday from 12 am to 11:59 pm. It was awesome. Definitely the best birthday ever.
