A Horrifying Epiphany

I know, I'm talkative today...

I pick at my dad all the time because he's worn the same gray Members Only jacket for almost 20 years now. ...Now, before you ask, no, it's not the same same one. I thought it was for many years as a child. I don't know why it never occurred to me, since it never seemed to get too worn or dingy, but I was a kid. Those kind of details didn't matter. It got to the point where I identified that gray jacket with my dad.

Anyway, a couple of years ago, my sister and I accompanied our dad to Hamrick's (unapologetically old-peopley pseudo-department store in Florence). You could tell when he was going in that he was on a mission. We walked over to the men's section, where they were having a sale on Members Only jackets. "Wow, I didn't know they still made these..." I remarked in wonder as Daddy perused the racks intently. He was wearing one of his other jackets, and then I realized he was holding the gray jacket, which had a hole in the sleeve. We went through one rack, and then we saw gray jackets. There were two shades, so Daddy took the sleeve of his jacket and held it up against the other jackets to make sure he got the exact right shade of gray. I kid you not. Jennifer and I tried our hardest to get Daddy to pick another color, even the lighter shade of gray, but he wasn't having it. We still laugh about that to this day.

Now, the punchline. I'm cleaning out my dorm at the moment, my dresser to be specific. I have this belt made by No Boundaries (cheap but trendy enough Wal-Mart label), that instead of the little holes has grommets all around it. I love it because the holes never fit me just right, and the grommets give me room to get smaller without getting a new belt. Anyway, I was throwing out worn-out belts, and I threw out two of these. And that's not counting the one I have on. That's when I realized I've worn this same belt (not the same same one, but you get it) almost nonstop for at least two years.

The look of horror on my face was priceless. "I'm turning into my dad..."

In addendum...the pink version's kinda cute. Heh...maybe I'm not completely over my pink obsession yet.
